Horyu-ji temple is located in Ikaruga town and the area consists of forty-eight ancient wooden structures within two temples sites, twenty-one at Horyu-ji temple and the rest at Hokki-ji temple.
It has a history of 1400 years and was the first World Heritage site in Japan.
There are nearly 200 national treasures in the two temples, including a five-story pagoda, the oldest surviving wooden building in the world.
The site is accessible by local bus or on foot (approx. 20 min.) from JR Horyuji station.
