Arashiyama

Arashiyama is one of the popular tourist destinations in Kyoto, filled with many tourist attractions including many diverse temples and the famous Bamboo Grove.

Tenryuji Temple

Address: 13 Ryoanji Goryonoshitacho, Ukyo Ward, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture 616-8001
Access: 5min walk from Arashiyama station on Keifuku Dentetsu Arashiyama Line
Admission: 500 yen for garden and additional 100 yen to include the temple.
Opening hours: 8.30 ~17.30 (close at 17.00 during winter)

Sagano Bamboo Grove

The path through the grove extends about 100 meters from the north exit of Tenryuji Temple to the Okochi Mountain- Villa and is a must-visit site in Arashiyama: probably one of the most photographed sights in Kyoto.

Togetsu-kyo Bridge

Togetsu-kyo literally means ‘moon crossing bridge’ and has been a land mark of Arashiyama for over four hundred years.

Access: 1 minute walk from Keifuku Railway Arashiyama Station

Sagano Sightseeing Train

Sagano Sightseeing Train also known as the Sagano Romantic Train has been specially designed for sightseeing and runs along the Hozugawa River between Torokko Saga station and Torroko Kameoka station.

Access: Torokko Saga station is next to JR Saga Arashiyama station
Closed: Wednesdays, January ~ February
Ticket: 620yen per way

Saihoji Temple

Saihoji temple also known as Kokedera (moss temple) is famous for its moss garden but can only take a limited number of visitors at any one time. Visitors are required to make an advance reservation by email. It is masterpiece of the famous Zen monk Muso Soseki. Through time, mosses gradually covered the entire space. There are believed to be 120 different types of moss found in the garden.

Access: Kyoto Bus number 73 runs once or twice hourly from Kyoto Station via Arashiyama
Ticket: 3,000yen. Must book in advance with a stamped addressed postcard: You will be told by return of post, a time and date when you can visit.
